Third Reading of Government Bill- Safeguarding National Security Bill
President, on behalf of all 18 Members of the “G19”, I support the Third Reading of the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance so as to fulfil the constitutional duty of HKSAR to enact legislation to implement Article 23 of the Basic Law and plug the gap in national security.
It is a great honour for the 18 of us to participate in and accomplish this historic mission today. No matter what challenges lie ahead, we will remain steadfast in safeguarding national security and stand as the guardians of this law.
Once Hong Kong has built a national security barrier, the business and investment environment will be more stable and Hong Kong will be safer, more open and more accommodating. We can then focus our efforts on pursuing economic development and improving people’s livelihoods, and embark on a broad road of advancement from stability to prosperity so that all the people of Hong Kong can live and work in peace and contentment.
